- Doggy Daycare Owner's LifelineMay 13, 2017 by JustinMish from United States
I met Fern at a Doggy Daycare & Boarding Seminar in Los Angeles that he spoke at. It really helped my business partners and I (who are really new to the business). He broke things down in a very fun and simple way. I can't get enough of his content now. Thanks for the lifeline Fern.

I only wish I had known of this podcast when I first brough my dog home. I was watching other TV shows featuring guys who would swoop into people's homes and fix all their dog emergencies. I tried to replicate their tactics with my dog but things just never worked. I found this podcast and I can honestly say that I find something that I can apply with my dog in every single episode. The advice he gives is practical and presented in a simple easy to understand way. I can't say enough good things about this podcast!
- Fun Listen and So Helpful!September 10, 2016 by gd4360 from United States
My son and I love this podcast and we learn something important from every episode. We worked with a trainer for our rescue puppy (an Aussie Shepherd mix) for about 4 months and then hit a plateau where she would only do what we wanted when the trainer was watching. We all started backsliding on the training and we started growing apart. I knew we needed more training, but the books and articles and shows weren't helping. We started listening to this podcast and everything turned around - it's exactly what we needed. We're making great progress again, starting back at the beginning and learning together one step at a time, and we're great friends again.
- "THE" Dog Training PodcastSeptember 1, 2016 by The Skateboard Philosopher from Canada
I have been listening to a number of dog training podcasts and for me Fern is the one that blends all the techniques and styles the best. He has a personality that keeps you interested, while conveying what a calmness he has with dogs. Once you hear his advice it simply makes sense. I'm on the verge of raising my third puppy and the information Fern shares in his podcast has set me up to be the best pack leader I can be to my new furry friend! Thanks for taking the time to put this information out there! Ryan

- You're AWESOME!!June 27, 2016 by LauraD ? from United States
First, thank you for your sensible and honest approach to dog training. I drive a lot and listen to your podcasts all the time. My husband and I recently rescued two puppies, who are not eight months old. We have done lots of training with them, but I am still going to buy your basic training and do it with them this summer. I'm a teacher and am off and have plenty of time to spend with them. So.. I had two questions - first, any specifics about raising two dogs at one time. My husband and I have both raised dogs, but never two at a time. After we rescued them, we were horrified to find so many online sources stating to NEVER get two puppies at the same time. They seem to be fine and well-adjusted; they love other dogs and all people. Of course, they look like dogs, but we know they still have puppy needs and require lots of training... Second question, I am up in New Hampshire for the summer and our house does not have a fence. One dog (Aussie shepherd mix) is pretty good at coming when called; the other dog (not sure, but we think hound (I KNOW! We didn't want a hound, but you have take the dog you get) and maybe pit or great dane, has issues coming when called. Without a fenced in yard, they must constantly be tied up when we are not walking them or playing with them in the lake. Any suggestions? Some people have recommended shock collars for off leash training, but I'm not sure. We do have tons of hiking and I would love to eventually let them off leash. Thank you for your podcasts. They have taught me so much :)). And I love that you're doing what you're passionate about in life. This enthusiasm comes through in every podcast. Keep up the great work! I'm looking forward to basic training.

These podcasts should be must-listens to EVERYONE who adopts a puppy or dog. He is so knowledgable about canine behavior, and does a great job explaining everything.

Thankful for all the information I've learned on this podcast. It's very interesting to learn why dogs do certain things and how we should react. My favorite thing I've learned is to be aware of what we reward, intentional or not. (Very helpful with our 7month old lab/German Shepard mix puppy). Thank you and keep um coming please!

- Fabulous podcast for anyone interested in dogsFebruary 10, 2016 by Pmbryant from United States
We were referred to an episode of The Great Dog Adventure by the rescue organization from which we adopted our dog two months ago. I've since listened to two or three dozen episodes and have become hooked. Our new dog is wonderful but needs some work to ensure she integrates smoothly and comfortably into our lives. Also, we need some work to understand where she is coming from. In this process, Fern's shows have become an invaluable resource for us and I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone with dogs of any age.

I found Fern’s podcast to be great information. The explanations are helpful and the techniques just make a lot of sense. I also foster dogs for a rescue and this is great information for bringing in new foster dogs to my pack as well as helping new adopters have the best experience with their new pet. I also refer them to this podcast. Thanks!!

Fern’s podcasts are easy to understand and practical in the application. Even as dog owner of many years, there is always something more to learn when it comes to understanding and communicating with our pups. Fern’s advice is always friendly and relatable. Thanks, Fern!
- Great resourceDecember 8, 2015 by LovedogPhD from United States
I love this podcast. Not only Fern provides what he learns all these years as a dog trainer, he also interviews a lot of experts on various fields about dogs. All those resources are very valuable even just for the awareness all those content brings. I also like his kind of balanced view on dog training. Although I think he leans more toward positive training, which I think probably should be the number one training method you should use to any dogs, he also emphasizes on the importance of correction, techniques like claim of space and more. Overall, a great dog training resource. Good job, Fern!

My wife and I recently bought two litter-mates (both male) and this podcast has saved our sanity! It is comprehensive, scientifically sound, and enjoyable. You could spend hours reading a multitude of books or you could listen to Fern’s podcast while doing the dishes (or anything). My wife even emailed Fern directly with a question and he responded THE SAME DAY! You simply cannot find better customer service in Podcastland than that! We are so grateful for Fern and his ministry; it has been a huge and unexpected blessing in our lives.

I don’t know how Fern stays in business, when he gives away such a great wealth of information. My dog and I have a much stronger bond because of these podcasts. Fern is fun to listen to and his energy is absolutely infectious. The topics he has covered over the past few years range from simple everyday issues to complex situations and he provides an array of solutions for you and your dog to try. Have I mentioned it’s free?!

Actually this is where anyone ‘considering’ getting a dog should come before they bring the dog home. Very Entertaining, great advice, tips and open perspective. We just adopted a beautiful but terribly shy and insecure 1 ½ year old Border Collie named KC 2 months ago. We had done our homework before hand (thankfully) however your podcasts have put the icing on the cake for making sure we start KC out in her new home in the best possible way to ensure a long and happy life with us. Will continue to listen every week. Laura and KC, Kelowna, BC Canada.
- Love to learn with Fern!June 11, 2015 by Boston Nay Nay from United States
Hi Fern! This is my first podcast review ever and it took me a good 15 min to figure out that I needed to head over to the itunes STORE (not the podcast app where i click play) and find your podcast, click on reviews and click review to add one myself. I listen to your podcasts a bunch so I vaguely remembered you saying "the itunes store" but I guess I just thought I was in it already in podcasts. Mayyy help others, or maybe I'm a little tech-slow (the opposite of saavy ;) ) ANYWAY I am giving your podcast 5 stars! I am going to be a brand new dog owner in 2 short weeks when Archie, a 2 year old 5 lb Papillon flies to me in Boston from Dallas Texas! I am so excited and WAS also nervous. Everyday I go out for a run and play your podcasts. I enjoy this time to learn AND exercise all in one fell swoop! I have been putting my learning to practice spending time with and babysitting friends and families dogs and its pretty cool to hear your lesson then go apply it and feel things out. I really really enjoy that your teaching style keeps in mind the fact that we don't all know how to "think like a dog" the way a good trainer like you knows. We think like humans because-well WE ARE humans :) I really like your fun friendly personality and look forward to my lunch breaks when I push play, hit the pavement and your opening music starts up. I figured I should tell you that it is one of the best parts of my day!! Thanks again!!

I really enjoy The Great Dog Adventure! Excellent content, interesting interviews, and the audio quality is great! I have 2 suggestions: I like the longer format better (I commute 2.5 hours a day and walk my dogs for an hour) so I listen to a lot of different podcasts. Also, I would love to hear an episode about socializing and training older rescues.
- Practical Information provided w a touch of humorMay 20, 2015 by Pat Ferdinandi from United States
Love the analogies Fernando uses to explain what may seem complicated but you get immediately after he explains his reasoning. His wisdom is different from many other "experts". He is honest and explains his reasoning. After listening to each episode, you say to yourself ... well of course ... that makes perfect sense. Because of The Great Dog Adventure, I'm having a better life with Obi, my 10 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback!
- Love the shorter formatMay 15, 2015 by Pictureliciousness from United States
Very informative! I love his voice too which is so important. I go to doggie classes and have learned a lot but it's nice to hear what I've learned reaffirmed or a different way to get the same results. He sounds like the kindest person and I will keep listening! Thank you for all your wisdom and keep up the good work.

- Very Prompt Response to EmailApril 9, 2015 by Rocket n Demi from Canada
I saw Fern's web page through a Facebook page for aggressive dogs. I thought I'd go have a look and see what he's all about. I put him to test and threw a few questions at him, not expecting an answer. Not only did I get an answer, I got it very very quickly. Since then, I've sent a few other questions and they've all been answered promptly. I've listened to several of his podcasts and have come away with good take aways from each of them. I love being notified when a new podcast comes out. I wish it was possible to listen to the podcast on my hour commute home!

Very informative podcast! This podcast has lots and lots of information and good tips! Fern, thanks for sharing this interview with Dr. Ian Dunbar. I was looking for some podcasts on iTunes about positive dog training and I found that The great Dog Adventure is one of the best. The way that Fern explains the information is very clear and also I like that he finished his podcasts with a great tip.
- Love your dog, so learn his languageMarch 21, 2015 by car3d from United States
Fern understands what having a dog as a pet is for us. He shares teaching with consistant love not negative punishment. I have 8 grandchildren and have observed many coaches teach them sports. Fern teaches like the best of them. He explains dog behavior and ways to teach your dog how to be a good dog in our human world. Every dog has their own unique personality, Fern understands how to teach them. Fern talks in an easy entertaining way about how your dogs breed and temperment and age will affect how you can change or manage their behavior. I haven't found a better podcast than this to teach me about a dogs point of view and making my time with him the best it can be for him and me.

We are buying a puppy and have lots of questions since I have never owned a dog. This review was extremly helpful without being boring or too much like a talk show.
- Checking inSeptember 12, 2014 by JenDaley from United States
I enjoy all the feedback and the musical intros these podcasts give. I don't enjoy the long winded explanations. However, the checking in part was a trigger word for me because my dog and I have that bond. The bond of "checking in". I related to that because I now have a foster dog that I need to work this behavior with. Thanks for reminding me on that. thanks for always being easy to listen to.
- A wealth of informationSeptember 6, 2014 by Shelterdoglover from United States
Although I have only started listening to the podcasts I am impressed by how Fern breaks everything down into simple manageable steps. He doesn’t judge you by other methods you have used but offers alternatives to them. I have 2 dogs and have fostered many others. I have also taken many dog training classes. I love the fact that this reinforces the things I’ve learned over the years and also reminds me of the fact that sometimes you have to go back to the basics. I am looking forward to listening to all that are available.

He is fun to listen to, super informative and has a wonderful conversational style totally lacking the self-righteouness that so many other trainers unfortunately possess. I have listened to all the episodes and also all of his other podcast, "Make Dogs Your Life". I always look forward to the new episodes. Thank you, Fern!

- Open Minds = Great ThinkersApril 22, 2014 by Molly the Mastiff from Canada
I love this podcast, as well as Fern's previous one. His balanced approach to all training methods and dog psychology are insightful, thoughtful and provocative. I like that he makes you think outside of the box. As a seasoned dog owner, I find myself getting stuck in the same way of doing things, and Fern's accessible style makes me WANT to tread on unexplored territory. I also love listening to the various guests and experts he hosts on the show, its all great information to think about, digest and makes me thirsty for more. I truly get excited to do even more with my dog, and that can only be better for our furry pals. I hope you can explore some more controversial topics with guests/experts such as the early spay/neuter debate, ACL surgery epidemic and perhaps some specific advice on giant breeds :-)

Hi Fern! I am up to episode 25 on the Great Dog Adventure and listened to all on the Make Dogs Your Life podcasts. I have learned so much and it is great to listen while walking my pups! My goal is to put all of this valuable information to use when I officially 'open' my new dog walking/sitting/adventures business. I find your episodes entertaining, informational and just plain fun to listen to! I hope to find the time to watch your uTube videos and be more engaged in your other areas such as Facebook. I think if I were to hear your voice on the phone or meet you on the street I would immediately know who you are! Thank you and I look forward to all of your upcoming episodes! Much appreciation, Karen
- Balanced not 'Dogmatic'March 31, 2014 by MaximusK9 from United States
I recently added 2 (Pit/Rottie) puppies to my diverse, rescued pack. I have many years experience manageing and training my other dogs but I wanted to update my knowledge so I started doing online/offline research. What I found is most trainers who write books or have podcasts aproach training as a religion and spend more time explaining why their approach is better than others. Fern does not do this at all. Fern's approach to training is situational and balanced. He is teaching concepts that will enhance your life with your dog long term. Added bonus from the owner of 3 Pit-mixes, he's a Pit Bull guy that recognizes the beauty of the breed!

- Helps me in rescue & shelter workMarch 7, 2014 by DeeCapp from United States
I volunteer with a Jindo rescue group and with my local city animal shelter and Fernando’s podcasts — especially those that focus on a specific issue — help me help the dogs we rescue and rehabilitate. From food guarding to teaching an older dog, who’s spend his entire life in a back yard, to walk calmly on a leash and live with a family indoors, this podcast is priceless. I’ve encouraged other volunteers to follow the podcast too. I strongly recommend this podcast to the folks who foster or adopt our dogs. I’ve learned that an untrained dog is a dog who’s more likely to end up in a animal control facility. A dog has so much to offer but we humans, if we’re to be worthy companions to these wonderful souls, must learn what they need and provide it. The Great Dog Adventure is really excellent in teaching what they need. Thank you Fernando!

Super podcast with great information, knowledgeable and understanding host. I always learn something new AND remember it - in part to Fern's manner and ability to share technique that is based in science but delivered in "real world" language for people. Helps me see our dog in a new light and able to make improvements at home.
- Entertaining and professionalFebruary 11, 2014 by keneumey from United States
Fern’s podcasts are so well put-together. From the catchy intro (“Take life by the tennis balls and give them a throw!”) to the cheer at the end of each interview, with a bonus training tip at the end, I’ve enjoyed each of his podcasts. As an experienced trainer, Fern can carry a whole podcast just sharing his own advice. He’s also a skilled interviewer, and has featured several notable guests. Two of my favorites have been his interview with Dr. Ian Dunbar and the podcast about caring for older dogs.

I absolutely love listening to your podcast. I considered myself pretty dog savy before listening. Each time I listen I learn more about dogs and different things that I can do with my own or fosters, or why my dogs do the silly things that they do. I always look forward to the training tip at the end of the podcast. One thing I would like to see, or shall I say hear: either a call in podcast or just addressing questions from listeners.
- Great casual listeningNovember 30, 2013 by ChickletHurley from Canada
A great podcast for dog lovers. There's some overlap from Fern's other podcast, Make Dogs Your Life, but not a lot and that's a different podcast anyway. If you've done a lot of research into dog training and behaviour, there might not be much new information, as I found, but the fun vibe and great interviews with some wonderful people make it very good overall.

- Informed easy listeningOctober 29, 2013 by Displaced Yorkshireman from United Kingdom
Have listened to a number of various podcasts available and I definitely enjoy these the most. Fern is well is well informed; and his style described by some as using too much repetition prevents one from "losing the thread" when enjoying the podcast in a busy environment. Either this or Make dogs your life is time well spent.

While I've always had dogs around, I never thought of myself as 'dog person' or given much thought to my dog's "understanding". Listening to Fern's enthusiasm about how to relate with my dog is amazing. I feel like a whole new world is opening up. Thanks for your help and looking forward to more episodes. Cheers, ~J

- Don't Dominate - CommunicateSeptember 18, 2013 by Getting wiser by the day from Canada
Fern, this was an excellent Podcast. I am so excited for you, and in turn for all of us who will benefit from these podcasts. Sarah, along with yourself, make some excellent points in how to 'read' your dogs 'dominance'. Comparing them and situations to children is brilliant. We as humans can understand a lot better by comparing, rather than just trying to understand without having something to relate it to. How to address it, and use it to your advantage was eye-opening. Your tip of the day at the end is one that can never be expressed enough. Most of us need a gentle reminder to be calm, whether it is with our dogs, our children…with anyone and in any situation actually. It is not always easy, however, does produce the best results overall. Thank you for bringing this medium to us. Good luck with future podcasts. I am excited to return and hear more. Janet Peterson
