FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is your training style (positive dog trainer, dog whisperer, etc.)? I don’t really subscribe to one dog training methodology alone. I have a very open-minded approach where I incorporate parts of many different training philosophies and mix them together to create my own unique style. I like to think I take the best of each training method, without any of their drawbacks. The foundation of my training style (and what makes my approach unique from other trainers) is what I like to call “state mind dog training.” I focus less on what your dog is physically doing and more on his state of mind at the time because his state of mind is dictating his actions.

Why are your typical private sessions an hour and a half? Most dog trainers charge you by the hour but very little can really get accomplished in an initial session in only one hour. I want you to know up front that I will be there longer than one hour and exactly what the final cost will be.

How many sessions will I need? Most behavior problems can be addressed in a single session. During that session we will be going over a lot of information and trying out a bunch of different training techniques with your dog. I give you some homework to do and then we talk on the phone in a week or so to troubleshoot and at that time you decide if you need me to come back again for a second session.

Should I do a private session or a group class? I think every dog owner and dog will benefit from doing at least one group class to learn the basic commands and work on communication. And if basic obedience is your goal, a group class is the most cost effective way to go. The downside of the group environment is that I’m limited in the amount of individual attention I can give. That’s why a one-on-one private session is best for behavioral issues.

How early should I start training with my puppy? Training should start the day you bring the little ball of fur home. The earlier you start working with your new puppy the better and faster he will learn the rules his new human world.
